It's almost a year after Google Chrome OS is in the market since Google Inc launch it on July-7-2009, in this short period there are already more than 30 million regular users. Google Chrome OS is an open source operating system designed by Google to work exclusively with web applications, so the people can use Google Chrome on the web — searching for information, checking email, catching up on the news, shopping or just staying in touch with friends.

This open source and lightweight operating system is targeted at netbook user and will be available for netbook consumers in the second half of 2010. Google reported: Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we're already talking to partners about the project, and we'll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.


If you are interested about Google Chrome OS you can Download Chrome OS VMWare/VirtualBox image and run it as a virtual system on top of your current operating system like Windows, Mac and Linux.
The Chrome OS image (300MB compressed / 700MB uncompressed) is compiled from the Chromium OS source code (developer preview 0.4.22.8). You can use it in VMware, VirtualBox, and on a USB drive. Even we run it from these medium but Google Chrome Operating System is still able to run smooth and fast. Good work for Google Inc, keep it going Chromium.

Author Opinion: While Google Chrome operating system is a good solution for netbook that lacking processing power nowadays, but it's might be not famous after next few year because of netbook will always improving in term of performance, features, and multimedia. This mean regular operating system can run on netbook like Windows Seven, and facing competition by Linux, this will sure reduce its popularity over the year. But i'm sure certain users will still use this system because of its own unique concept, and netbook market in future is unimaginable. But we'll see how Chromium open source project community perform for the next few year.
